Welcome

As a copy editor and project manager, I have almost 43 years' experience in academic publishing. My journal experience dates back to my time with Academic Press (1973–80), after which I worked in the science book publishing unit at George Allen & Unwin (1980–7). Since 1987, I have been working on a freelance basis, across a broad range of primarily academic subjects. During this time, I have worked mostly – but not exclusively – for commercial publishers, with a global range of clients (past and present) encompassing the UK, the USA, Australia, France, Germany, The Netherlands, India, Saudi Arabia and Singapore. .

My objective is to continue to develop the services that I offer, across the full range of technological possibilities, and to expand into new areas such as self-publishing. I would be happy to discuss consultancy, development editing and writing opportunities.

Please feel free to explore this website, and do get in touch if you would like to make any further enquiries.

A very general specimen consulting agreement can be viewed here.

About me: I was brought up in Coventry (my parents having moved from their native Worcestershire in the early 1950s) and educated at Bablake Grammar School and then Imperial College, London, where I graduated in physics. After living in London and the Home Counties, in 1988 my wife and I relocated with our young family to the York area. I enjoy an eclectic taste in music, and I am a keen gardener and cyclist. In common with so many of those who edit, I continue to cherish an ambition to write. No – let's be perfectly candid. I've always been a writer, having contributed poetry and prose to school and college magazines, and having very nearly had my poetry published in Howard Sergeant's Outposts booklet series back in the 1970s.
